The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and Chairman of the party’s 2026 National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, have expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to conduct a successful national convention.

The APC has scheduled its 2026 National Convention for March 27 and 28 at Eagle Square.

Both leaders spoke in Abuja on Monday during a “Walk for a Cleaner and Safer Environment,” an awareness initiative organised by the party’s National Convention Environment and Sanitation Sub-Committee.

Represented by the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hon. NzevChidi Duru, Yilwatda said the party is fully prepared to overcome any challenges that may arise.

“We are prepared, and we look forward to Saturday when the convention will be held. We are here to celebrate and also to signal that we are not just organising the convention, but preparing for our primaries. We are ready,” he said.

He acknowledged the possibility of challenges but described them as manageable, stressing that the APC has remained resilient and guided by strong ideological foundations.

Masari, who also spoke at the event, reiterated the party’s preparedness, insisting that all arrangements have been put in place for a hitch-free exercise.

“There are always challenges in every human endeavour, but that does not stop progress. We are ready, and the event will go on as planned,” he said.

He further commended the sanitation sub-committee for its initiative, describing the exercise as timely and impactful.

"They have aligned themselves to win. This shows that we said APC is ready, and they have won. We are waiting for 2027, and our Convention, we are ready for it, come Saturday. I thank the organisers of this road march for being so green. Wherever you go, you are green. Let it go green. Let it go green. We are ready. You can see that we are ready," he said.

The Vice Chairman of the Environment and Sanitation sub-committee, former Cross River State Governor, Dr. Ben Ayade, said the party has shown real capacity to drive the Convention.

He also noted that the party is repositioning to create a new Nigeria, stressing that the party is clearly focused on returning to government with a clear agenda to put people first.

He said, “What we have done is shown the real fact that we have got capacity, energy, and vitality to drive the Convention in absolute peace.

“As a party, we are really repositioning and reloading to create a new Nigeria that will show clearly that we are focused on returning to government with a clear agenda to put people first and above.”

“Indeed, it is very clear that our president has done so well. And so we are here to celebrate the Convention and, of course, the adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he concluded.

Also, the sub-committee’s secretary, Senator Uche Ekwunife, said the party is not only prepared for the Convention but also prepared for the 2027 general elections.

“We are not just prepared for the Convention. We are prepared for the 2027 election. When we are going to return our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.”

Ekwunife also stressed that the walk for a cleaner and safer environment was not just about letting people know that the party stands for green, but also ready for the Convention and the general elections.

According to her, “We want to let them know that we are not just green. We are ready. We are prepared. We are confident that in 2027, APC is going to win by a landslide with 90% of all the votes cast in Nigeria, and President Tinubu is coming back.”

Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, who is serving as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Convention Central Committee, assured party members and the general public that the national committee will surpass all expectations.

He pointed out that APC is in government to govern well, saying this is visible across all the segments of society.

“And we started to keep the city clean. We are not just a party. We are in governance to govern well.

“I want to assure you that everything we are going to do about this Convention will go beyond the expectations of the Nigerian public. So, I want to thank you for joining us to flag off our campaign, our effort for the Convention, through this walk organised by the sub-committee on the Environment.

“The Environment and Sanitation Committee has demonstrated clearly that we have a leadership and structure that is special.

On his part, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said, "For me, I think what we have done today is a pointer toward the Convention.

“We hope the Convention will achieve so that the focus is not just on a domestic issue in Nigeria, but even on the global agenda. You know, the environment is mostly there when you're talking about climate change. So many things are happening to our environment.

“And I'm happy that under their leadership, they decided that we should pay attention to the environment. We've walked around. We've seen how clean this city is.”

Speaking on the ongoing reforms, Dogara said, “I want everybody to know that just like injury has pain, the healing process, too, carries pain. I know what a lot of our brothers are talking about. They are not talking about economics, but we are feeling it.

“The reforms being embarked upon, obviously, will take time for them to pitch. And I'm happy that we have a president, someone who is courageous, someone who is dedicated to the progress of this country. As the benefits of the reforms begin to crystallise, Nigerians will see clearly why we should return him.

“As far as I'm concerned, this convention offers us the opportunity not only to showcase what we do but to render account to a teeming populace ahead of the 2027 elections. And hopefully we'll be there. Like my sister has said, to return the president with resounding success.”
