Director of Taiwan International Criminal Affairs Division, Criminal Investigation Bureau, National Police Agency, Edward Lee, has underscored the need for nations to partner  in tackling local and foreign cyber security criminals and others.

Lee, who spoke with visiting Nigerian journalists in Taiwan, said what should concern nations now is how to cooperate to tackle the dangerous dimensions of activities of hackers, cyber criminals from North Korea, Russia, China and other parts of the world.

According to him, despite his country not being an official member of INTERPOL,  his agency and its few officers share intelligence and sensitive information with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and similar agencies from Japan, the European Union, Asia, Africa and others.

He explained that countries must work together fast to tackle criminals whose aims are borderless and in the process stealing billions of cash, assets, infrastructure, critical and sensitive intelligence, information, putting security and humans in danger.

He asserted that his agency and other sister agencies engage in no rivalry, but cooperate seamlessly to protect national and other countries security.

On whether there is political interference in his agency and sister agencies’ operations, Lee explained such has no place in their working framework in decades.

He said the prosecution office periodically meets with other agencies and officers for efficient and effective service delivery.

Lee’s submissions also confirmed the assertions of top managements of CHT Security and TRENDAI - two private security firms who said cyber security is a global issue that their clients and home government, other countries are putting 24 hours operation to tackle because criminals are becoming dangerous.

The firms, during different engagement with the Nigerian delegation, also confirmed that cyber security protection and solutions are necessary for a safer economy, protection of assets and infrastructure.

According to them, they have hundreds of thousands of clients, thousands of employees in many countries, including in Africa, they are protecting their assets.
