The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from office, effective Monday, February 9.

Professor Usman announced his resignation in a press statement issued on Tuesday, attributing his decision strictly to personal reasons after what he described as prayerful reflection and consultation with his family.

"I wish to state unequivocally that this decision is taken entirely for personal reasons,” he said.

He stated that his decision was made in good conscience and with deep respect for the responsibilities of public service.

According to him, his resignation was conveyed formally in writing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006.

The outgoing NAHCON boss expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust and opportunity to serve the nation and the Muslim ummah, describing the appointment as an honour he would forever cherish. He also acknowledged the support of Vice President Kashim Shettima, whom he praised for his guidance and encouragement throughout his tenure.

Prof Usman hailed members of the NAHCON Board, as well as the management and staff of the Commission, for their dedication, professionalism, and teamwork. He also appreciated key stakeholders in Nigeria’s Hajj operations, including State Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, tour operators, aviation and service providers, and Saudi Arabian authorities, noting that their collaboration contributed significantly to the success of the Commission’s mandate.

He emphasised that his resignation was not borne out of dissatisfaction with NAHCON, the Federal Government, or the commission’s operations, but was purely a personal decision.

As he steps aside, Prof Usman offered prayers for the continued success of the commission and its future leadership, while also praying for President Tinubu and Nigerian pilgrims.

He prayed that Allah accept the collective efforts made during his tenure and grant all future pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur.
