Afrobeats singer Tems has shared her thoughts on marriage, emphasising it should be about growth and accountability rather than just emotions.

In an interview with media personality Angie Martinez, she stressed the importance of having a God-fearing partner, believing it ensures accountability and long-term commitment.

According to her, marriage is a journey that refines individuals, focusing on compatibility and personal growth over fleeting feelings.

“Why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?

“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love; it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, as it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole other level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” she stated.
