Media personality Daddy Freeze has claimed that religion is undermining Nigeria's development.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Freeze claimed that despite Nigeria's reputation as one of the most religious countries, the nation lags in key development indicators.

He mentioned Japan as an example of a country with a high standard of living despite being largely irreligious.

He highlighted Nigeria's dismal life expectancy rate, citing 2026 statistics that place the average lifespan at just 54 years.

Daddy Freeze expressed frustration with the disconnect between Nigerians' religiosity and the country's socio-economic challenges, noting that citizens pay more in tithes than taxes, yet see little improvement in living conditions.

“How is religion working for us?” he asked.

“My problem with religion is – it has no results. Where is the prosperity? Where is the love? You say God loves us because we are religious, so how come the Japanese are the ones enjoying their own heaven on earth? They are developed.

“We don’t have anything, but we have this ‘God that favours us.’ However, when we truly list the things that we say favour is – prosperity, health… Did you know Nigeria has the shortest life expectancy in the world, according to the 2026 statistics -54 years?

“We pay more tithes than taxes in this country", Daddy Freeze expressed.
