The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the strategic road projects linking the Abuja Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada will be completed in time for inauguration in June 2026, as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
Wike gave the assurance while briefing journalists during the continuation of his project inspection tour across Abuja. He stated that the road networks have reached advanced stages of execution and remain on schedule for delivery.
He underscored the strategic significance of the corridor, noting that the completed projects would provide a direct link between the satellite towns and the city centre, thereby easing traffic pressure and reducing travel time for commuters.
At the project sites, the minister disclosed that the Airport Road to Kuje stretch, described as a critical component of the region’s transport connectivity, has surpassed 77 per cent completion.
He added that work on the Kuje to Gwagwalada road has progressed to nearly 65 per cent completion, expressing optimism that contractors would meet the stipulated timelines.

Wike noted that once completed, the road will allow travelers from Gwagwalada to the city center to bypass the main airport road entirely, effectively easing traffic congestion and fostering economic growth in the satellite towns.
Wike also commended the contractors; Arab Contractors - for the Airport–Kuje axis, and Gilmor Engineering for the Kuje–Gwagwalada dualization—for their dedication to the project.
He stated that he was quite impressed with the level of work done since his last visit and assured residents that the project remains a top priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike said; “the Minister confirmed that the projects would be inaugurated in the first or last week of June 2026.
“I am very impressed with the work done and like the contractors have said, by the first week of June or June ending, we would have inaugurated these projects. It is a very important project and you don’t need to go through the airport if you are going from Gwagwalada to the city centre. We are very happy with what we have seen”.
It would be recalled that the Airport–Kuje road project, was originally awarded in 2019, but suffered years of delays before being revived by the current FCT administration.
