Justice Mojisola Dada of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced Remilekun  Balogun-Okedeyi to one year imprisonment and community service for visa racketeering scheme.

The convict was, however, given an option of fine of N500,000.

The conviction followed the defendant’s guilty plea to a one-count amended charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Charge No. ID/27346C/2025.

During proceedings yesterday the prosecuting counsel, Yvonne William-Mbata,  informed the court of the amended charge.

When the amended charge was read, the defendant pleaded guilt.

During the trial, the prosecution called its witness, Mr. A. Onyema, who testified that the case stemmed from a petition by the British Deputy High Commission.

He told the court that investigations revealed that the convict was a beneficiary of a visa racketeering syndicate.

Onyema informed the court that the convict  had falsely represented herself as a staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to the British mission.

Counsel to the convict,  Mrs. Grace Adenubi, a Deputy Director of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, had pleaded with the court to temper justice with

Delivering judgment in the matter, Justice Dada held that the convict was guilty of the charges brought against her.

The court held that  the evidence against the convict was uncontroverted and that they established her culpability.

The court accordingly found her guilty as charged.

The court also ordered that she undertake community service within the court premises.
