... Says every life has value, dignity must be upheld

  • From Bolaji Ogundele, Abuja

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace inclusion and uphold the dignity and rights of persons living with autism, stressing that their contributions remain vital to society.

In a message to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day 2026 on Thursday, the First Lady joined the global community in affirming “the dignity, worth, and limitless potential of every person living with autism.”

She noted that the 2026 theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” underscores the importance of recognizing individuals with autism as an integral part of humanity.

According to her, “people living with autism are an important part of our shared humanity. Their lives, voices, and contributions enrich our communities and strengthen our collective future.”

Senator Tinubu, however, warned against the persistence of misinformation and harmful narratives surrounding autism, urging Nigerians to remain committed to promoting understanding and inclusion.

“At a time when misinformation and harmful narratives about autism sometimes reemerge, we must remain steadfast in promoting understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all,” she said.

She further called on citizens to work collectively toward building a society anchored on respect for human dignity and equal rights.

“Let us all continue to build a society that recognizes the inherent dignity, equal rights, and unconditional value of every individual,” the First Lady added.
