Writers, publishers chart path to sustainable industry

Writers and publishers gathered at the 2026 London Book Fair to discuss the way forward for a sustainable writing and publishing industry.

The event, regarded as one of the largest and most prestigious annual spring book trade and publishing global events, held in Olympia, London.

The fair provided a platform for agents, authors, writers and publishers to collaborate on strategies to navigate and sustain the industry, while also promoting a reading culture among institutions and the global public.

It also offered participants the opportunity to examine how writers can position themselves and maintain rele vance in the evolving publishing landscape.

Speaking at the event, a writer, Hakeem Ajao, said the fair provides a platform for aspiring authors to explore ideas and grow in the industry.

He added that it offers opportunities to engage with literary enthusiasts, fellow writers, agents and decision-makers in the publishing sector.

Ajao said: “The LBF provides the platform for aspiring authors to explore ideas, develop and grow in the industry.

“It also affords the opportunity to discuss with literary enthusiasts, fellow writers, agents and the decision makers in the publishing industry.”

This year  featured addresses from leading publishing executives, including Audible Chief Executive, Bob Carrigan; Pan Macmillan, Chief Executive, Joanna Prior; and Penguin Random House UK Chief Executive Tom Weldon.

Also in attendance were publishing experts and authors like Amanda Harris, Hennah Sandhu, Steven Dumughn and T. M Logan.
