Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua (APC–Katsina Central), has expressed grief over the death of Rivers South East Senator, Barinada Mpigi.

Mpigi died on Wednesday at the age of 64 after a prolonged illness, according to family sources.

In a tribute, Yar’Adua described the late lawmaker as a committed nationalist and bridge-builder who dedicated himself to public service.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Barinada Mpigi, a man who embodied the spirit of bridge-building, nationalism, and service to his people. As a colleague in the Senate, I had the privilege of witnessing his tireless efforts to promote unity and progress in our great nation,” he said.

“Senator Mpigi was a true nationalist who understood that our diversity is our strength, not our weakness. He worked tirelessly to build bridges between communities, fostering dialogue and cooperation wherever he went. His commitment to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole was unwavering, and his legacy will continue to inspire a new generation of Rivers State politicians

“On behalf of the good people of Katsina Central and my family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Senator Barinada Mpigi, the people of Rivers State, and the entire Nigerian nation.

“Senator Mpigi was a champion of progressive ideas and a dedicated public servant who understood that his role as a legislator was to uplift our country and improve the lives of our citizens. His experience, wisdom, and passion will be deeply missed in the 10th Senate.

“May God grant his family, friends, and constituents the fortitude to bear this loss, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.”
