The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged the party’s support groups to move from organising rallies to undergoing intensive grassroots voter education ahead of next year’s general election.

Yilwatda spoke on Monday in Abuja during a national symposium organised by a support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Integrity Group of Nigeria (IGN).

Represented by Prof. Attah Pine, the APC National Chairman noted that the success of the party hinged on its ability of its members and supporters to effectively communicate the achievements of the President Tinubu administration to the common man.

He described voter outreach as a “core responsibility” that requires a sophisticated and professional approach.

Yilwatda urged the groups to act as bridge-builders between the government and the governed.

“Voter mobilisation is one of the functions of political parties and it is expected that the Integrity Group (IGN) will be at the forefront of doing that, telling Nigerians what the President has done and what he is going to do in the next four years,” he said.Dismissing the notion that support groups are disposable campaign tools, Yilwatda described them as a “reservoir of skilled professionals,” noting that active participants are often prioritised when the administration seeks capable hands for official appointments.

The Convener of the group, Dr. Okey Idawene, said the gathering was put in place to rally support for the second term aspiration of President Tinubu in next year’s general election.

Highlighting President Tinubu’s achievements in the past three years, Idawene declared a “no vacancy” status in Aso Rock for any other aspirant for yjr position.

The IGN convener described President Tinubu’s leadership as a divine mandate.

“We are here to support a man helped by God. President Bola Tinubu is a man prepared by God. He came prepared, and we are here to ensure that every information about the Nigerian state is effectively disseminated,” Idawene told the gathering.

He cautioned the party’s leadership against tinkering with the political machinery that secured victory in 2023, warning that any attempt to dismantle existing alliances would be counterproductive.

“You don’t change a winning team. Doing so is an error,” he warned.

The immediate-past Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Godfrey Uche Nnaji, who was the chief host of the symposium, called for political maturity and a culture of “politics without bitterness” as the party prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.

The symposium agreed on a unanimous resolution from the support groups to begin immediate “door-to-door” engagement across the 774 local government areas to shore up support for the APC’s agenda.
