A grassroots fundraising initiative in Yobe State has generated about N188 million in pledges and donations to support Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan’s bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

The fundraiser, held yesterday in Damaturu, the state capital, drew support from across communities, with contributions coming in cash, pledges, and bank transfers.

In a statement, Lawan, a former Senate President representing Yobe North, expressed appreciation to the organisers, the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Dr. Mohammed Goni Yerima.

The former Senate President described the initiative as a reflection of responsible citizenship and active grassroots participation in the political process.

Preliminary reports indicated that the funds were paid into a designated bank account set up for the special purpose.

Lawan said he was particularly moved by the volume of small donations, noting that contributions ranging from N100 to N3,000 were made by widows, apprentices, traders and students.

He described the development as a true reflection of community ownership and participatory democracy.

According to him, the gesture goes beyond fundraising, representing a collective investment in a vision for open, transparent and accountable governance in Yobe State.

The lawmaker added that his governorship ambition is driven by a desire to respond to the aspirations of the people, while praying for divine guidance in the pursuit of the goal.
