The Forum for Yoruba Unity and Progress (FYUP) has expressed grave concerns over the state of insecurity in parts of Yoruba land.
The Chairman Dr. Adewale Adeniran, raised the concerns in a statement personally signed by him.
He said: “At a time when lives are being lost, communities are under threat, and fear is becoming a daily reality, it is unacceptable that attention is being diverted toward political endorsements and ceremonial activities instead of confronting the urgent security crisis facing our region.

“This is not the time for political positioning — it is a time for leadership, courage, and action.””
The statement noted that “equally disturbing is the long-standing injustice against Yoruba traditional rulers in Kwara State, particularly the obas of Jebba and Shao, who have reportedly endured years of deprivation, non-recognition, and denial of entitlements for refusing to compromise their traditional identity.

“This is not only unjust — it is an attack on the dignity, heritage, and autonomy of the Yoruba traditional institution. We reject in totality any system where Yoruba Obas are subjected to punishment, neglect, or suppression for standing on their cultural and historical identity.
FYUP went on to demand that ''the South West Traditional Council must rise beyond symbolic relevance and demonstrate real leadership by speaking out and taking decisive action on issues affecting Yoruba monarchs and the security of our people; the Kwara State Government must immediately address and rectify all injustices, including the restoration of salaries, recognition, and full rights of affected Yoruba Obas; the Federal Government must ensure fairness, justice, and protection of traditional institutions across Nigeria without bias or political influence; all Yoruba leaders and stakeholders must prioritize the protection of lives and communities above political alignments.
''Let it be known: the continued silence, inaction, and misplaced priorities in the face of insecurity and injustice are unacceptable. History will not be kind to those who chose comfort, ceremony, and politics over the safety and dignity of their people. The Yoruba people deserve protection. The Yoruba institution deserves respect. Justice must be done. The time for action is now.”
