The Rector of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ikirun, Salaudeen Oyewale, has cautioned newly admitted students to avoid distractions, stressing that their chosen profession carries direct responsibility for human lives.

Oyewale gave the warning on Thursday during the institution’s second matriculation ceremony, where a total of 507 students were formally admitted into various programmes.
He emphasised that the healthcare field demands a high level of discipline, focus, and dedication, noting that any lapse in these areas could have serious consequences. According to him, students must approach their training with a sense of purpose and responsibility.
“I urge you to take your studies seriously. The profession you are entering is one that deals directly with human lives,” he said. “Therefore, it is not just a career but a calling. You must be disciplined, focused, and committed to excellence.”
The rector further advised the students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits and avoid activities that could derail their progress. He underscored the importance of maintaining high ethical standards, adding that the institution would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its values or reputation.
Oyewale also reiterated the college’s commitment to producing competent healthcare professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills required to meet societal needs. He encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities available to them, including practical training and academic support.

The matriculation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the new students, officially ushering them into the academic community and setting the tone for their professional journey in the health sector.

“Avoid distractions that may derail your academic journey. Embrace integrity, diligence, and respect for constituted authority. Let your conduct reflect the values and standards of this institution. He noted that the institution's commitment to quality assurance, curriculum standardization, and compliance has positioned the College as a growing hub of excellence in health technology education.
Also, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Dr Mustapha Olawuyi, congratulated the students, warning that they will not tolerate indiscipline and misconduct.
He promised, “The Governing Council remains committed to ensuring that this institution maintains high academic and moral standards.” We will continue to provide the necessary support, policies, and oversight to promote quality education and a conducive learning environment. At the same time, we expect full cooperation from students, staff, and all stakeholders.”
