The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation has distributed food items worth over N105 million to more than 20,000 indigent individuals and families across 28 states as part of its ongoing Ramadan food support programme.

Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Prince Olagunju Sulayman, said this while briefing journalists on the progress of the nationwide humanitarian initiative at the distribution of Eid-ul-Fitr Food Pack distribution.

He said the intervention, supported by donors and partner organisations, was aimed at assisting vulnerable households during the holy month.

Prince Sulayman explained that the food packs contain staple items designed to support families during Suhoor and Iftar, adding that the distribution is still ongoing as more partners continue to support the programme.

According to him, the organisation is also planning an additional intervention ahead of the Eid celebration, targeting more than 10,000 indigent individuals with food items valued at over N25 million.

He said the goal was to ensure that vulnerable families could celebrate the festive period with dignity without resorting to begging for food.

“At this stage, the total sum of N105 million has been spent so far on Ramadan food packs and Zakatul Fitr support across various states in Nigeria. This reflects the scale of the commitment and the generosity of all those who have contributed to this effort,” he said.

Sulayman noted that the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to compassion, social responsibility and the belief that no family should go hungry during the sacred period.

He added that the foundation works closely with government agencies, community leaders and partners to ensure that support reaches the most vulnerable members of society.

According to him, access to food not only helps families observe the Ramadan fast but also enables them to remain productive in their daily activities.

“When people have food, they have the strength and courage to face the challenges they are going through despite the economic situation in the country,” he said.

He noted that adequate food support helps prevent illness among the vulnerable, explaining that hunger often exposes people to sickness.

“For the past 30 days, some people said they could not fast because they had no food. But with the support of donors, individuals and corporate organisations, we have been able to reach about 20,000 people. That is significant,” he said.
