The Governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Is-haq Oloyede, and other eminent personalities will on Sunday storm the University of Lagos Main Auditorium, Akoka for the 31st Pre-Ramadan Lecture (PRL) organised by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA).

A statement by the UMA National President, Dr AbdulMumin Alao, said the theme of the lecture, is “The Light Beyond: Guiding Our Souls to Paradise.”

According to him, Governor Zulum will chair the event, while the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Folashade Ogunsola, will serve as the chief host.

He added that the keynote address would be delivered by Obasa.

“The main guest speaker, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Secretary-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, will speak on the topic, ‘Muslims: The Challenge of National Security,’” the statement noted. A second lecture will be delivered by the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Ridwan Jamiu, on the topic “The Path to Paradise: How to Get There,” he said.

Explaining the choice of topics, Alao said they reflected pressing social and spiritual concerns.

“We decided to discuss national security as the lead topic this year because it is the biggest challenge facing Nigeria at the moment,” he said.

Alao added that the lecture would also serve as a reunion for Muslim graduates of UNILAG and a platform for giving back to society, while inviting members of the public to attend.

The UMA Pre-Ramadan Lecture series began as a platform to prepare Muslims spiritually for Ramadan, promote religious education and engage the wider public on contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective.

Previous editions attracted senior government officials, traditional rulers, academics and Islamic scholars from within and outside Nigeria, with past themes focusing on economic reforms, governance, ethics and social responsibility.
