A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Peter Ogundeji, has declared his intention to contest for the Osun West Senatorial seat, citing the need to tackle persistent socio-economic challenges in the district.

Ogundeji noted that despite the zone’s rich human and natural resources, issues such as youth unemployment, infrastructural deficits, poor healthcare, and limited federal presence have continued to hinder development.

He stressed that only purposeful and result-driven representation can unlock the district’s full potential.

Speaking in Iwo in the presence of party leaders, including Mudashiru Hussein, former Osun Speaker Mojeed Alabi, ex-Speaker Adejare Bello, Akin Ogunbiyi, Chairman of Mutual Benefit Assurance, and Dotun Babayemi, among others, Ogundeji formally announced his ambition.

“I hereby declare my intention to seek the ticket of our great party, APC, to contest for the Senate seat representing the good people of Osun West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

He noted that “Osun West is a land of rich heritage and immense potential, blessed with industrious people, fertile land, vibrant youths, resilient women, and thriving entrepreneurs.”

He lamented that “Our people continue to face pressing challenges, youth unemployment, economic hardship, infrastructural deficits, inadequate healthcare, educational gaps, limited access to credit, and insufficient federal presence. These realities demand not rhetoric, but purposeful and result driven representation.”

He disclosed that, “My aspiration is not built on empty promises, but on proven commitment. Through my foundation, over 500 youths and women have been empowered, while more than 1,500 indigent students have benefitted from free JAMB registrations.

“We envision an Osun West that is economically empowered, agriculturally productive, educationally advanced, infrastructurally developed, socially inclusive, secure, peaceful, and politically relevant.”

Highlighting his blueprint, he said “My aspiration is anchored on six clear, people oriented and result driven blueprint built on six key pillars including: Economic Empowerment and Job Creation; Agricultural Development and Food Security; Education and Human Capital Development; Healthcare and Social Welfare; Infrastructure and Community Development and Responsive and Inclusive Representation.”

He noted that representation must be participatory and accountable. We will institutionalise regular town hall meetings, maintain a functional constituency office, provide transparent legislative updates, and ensure active inclusion of youths and women in governance.
