A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.
Wunti said his decision followed sustained appeals from citizens, political stakeholders, and supporters across the state who urged him to join the race.
He made the declaration during a courtesy visit to APC leaders in Bauchi Local Government Area, marking his first formal engagement with party structures at both local and state levels since strengthening his ties with the party.
Addressing party officials, Wunti said his ambition is driven by a sense of responsibility rather than personal gain.
“Allah knows, I only accepted to contest because of the pressure mounted on me to help rescue the future of our unemployed youth and safeguard the next generation,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, pledging to work within the party’s framework to advance its ideals and strengthen its position in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wunti also outlined his vision for governance, promising an inclusive, transparent, and development-oriented administration. He said his focus would be on youth empowerment, economic growth, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
The declaration signals the beginning of political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Bauchi State, with Wunti positioning himself as a key contender within the APC.
He also congratulated the newly inaugurated APC leadership in Bauchi Local Government, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Yahaya Mohammed Miya, introduced the aspirant to party stakeholders, noting that the visit was aimed at strengthening ties and promoting unity within the party.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, described Dr. Wunti as a distinguished son of the state with a strong record in mentorship and community development.
“His contributions have shaped individuals capable of occupying top leadership positions, including that of governor,” he said.
He assured aspirants of a fair and transparent process, adding that Wunti’s track record would be an asset to the party’s preparations.
At the APC state secretariat, Dr. Wunti said he deliberately stayed away from internal party leadership contests to demonstrate respect for party processes and promote unity.
“I am prepared to work with whoever emerges as leader at all levels. There will be equity and equal opportunities for all,” he said.
He also highlighted the need to address youth unemployment and the marginalisation of women, pledging to prioritise job creation, women's empowerment, and sustainable development.
Responding, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan Tilde, welcomed Wunti, commending his loyalty to the party.
He noted that the APC requires credible aspirants capable of uniting the party and positioning it for victory in 2027.
