Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko South East and Akoko South West Federal Constituencies of Ondo State have endorsed Dr Victor Olusegun Ategbole as the ‘consensus candidate’

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko South East and Akoko South West Federal Constituencies of Ondo State have endorsed Dr Victor Olusegun Ategbole as the 'consensus candidate' for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leaders unanimously endorsed Dr Ategbole at a stakeholders’ meeting held at Owalagba Town Hall in Oka-Akoko on Tuesday, with participants drawn from all 11 wards in Akoko South East and 15 wards in Akoko South West.
They said their decision was also in line with the position of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had earlier encouraged the various contestants vying for the elective positions to adopt consensus for the general elections.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the stakeholders meeting and signed by the APC Chairman in Akoko South West Local Government, Hon. Sunday Agbede Aijulu, the party leaders added that their decision to back Ategbole was to bring development to the federal constituency.
They explained that only consensus or direct primaries are recognised modes of candidate selection within the APC.
The leaders, who justified their support for Ategbole for the House of Representatives seat, cited their voting strength within the constituency as one of the main factors behind their support.
They specifically noted that Dr Ategbole's hometown, Oka-Akoko, accounts for about 74 per cent of the voting population in the federal constituency.
The leaders expressed confidence that Ategbole’s candidacy would strengthen the APC’s chances of victory in the constituency and boost support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the APC chapter in Akoko South West Local Government formally ratified Ategbole’s adoption in a separate meeting, describing the move as a demonstration of unity and strategic alignment.
The endorsement meeting, attended by party officials, elected representatives, ward leaders, and elders, concluded with a unanimous voice vote in support of Ategbole.
The party also resolved to commence immediate mobilisation across all wards to ensure victory at both the primaries and the general election, while urging APC leadership at the state and national levels to respect the collective will of stakeholders in the constituency.
