Delta North traditional rulers have declared their support for the reelection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.

The monarchs declared the support when the caucus of Delta North traditional rulers convened a high-level meeting at the palace of HRM Obi Uche Irenuma II, the Obi and Paramount Ruler of Abavo Kingdom.

They passed a vote of confidence in the Governor,  noting that under his leadership, there had been renewed  inclusion, and support for the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, a development they said, had strengthened the relationship between government and traditional institutions.

They further stated that the Oborevwori administration had demonstrated responsiveness to the needs of the people and traditional institutions, thereby fostering peace, stability, and development across communities.

Speaking with newsmen after the meeting on behalf of the traditional rulers, Obi Uche Irenuma II, expressed appreciation to Oborevwori for his continuous support and recognition of traditional institutions across the state.

He particularly appreciated the governor for the car gifts presented to traditional rulers in Delta State, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of partnership, and recognition of the important role traditional rulers play in maintaining peace, unity, and development at the grassroots level.

According to him, the governor has shown through his actions that he understands the importance of traditional rulers as critical stakeholders in governance and community development.

The monarchs also called on former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to contest the Delta North Senatorial seat.

They noted that the call was based on recognition of his achievements while serving as governor and his continued relevance in the political and developmental journey of Delta North.

The traditional rulers highlighted the numerous milestones recorded during Okowa’s tenure, especially in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and human capital development.

They emphasised that his administration brought visible transformation and laid a solid foundation for sustainable development across Delta State.

They also noted that Senator Okowa’s experience in governance, understanding of the needs of the people, and strong legislative background place him in a good position to effectively represent Delta North at the National Assembly.

According to the monarchs, his return to the Senate would further strengthen the voice of Delta North and attract more federal presence and opportunities to the region.
