NDIGBO for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT) and over 40 affiliate groups are set to announce President Bola Tinubu as the consensus candidate of the Southeast ahead of the 2027 election.
The forum disclosed this in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Peter Ozo.
The statement reads: “In a move that reflects the astute political acumen and forward - thinking of the Igbo people, over 43 Igbo affiliate groups, in unison with NDI-ABAT, have reached a momentous decision.
“We are set to jointly announce and officially adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the consensus candidate of the Southeast and the Igbo Nation for the 2027 Presidential elections. This significant declaration is scheduled to take place during the President's proposed visit to the Southeast to commission two newly constructed federal road projects: the Enugu - Nnewi Expressway and the Enugu - Port Expressway (Aba Axis). This visit is also a commemoration of his third anniversary in office on May 29th, 2026.”
NDI-ABAT extended its heartfelt greetings to the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi. “Under his leadership, the Igbo people have witnessed a remarkable transformation in the region's infrastructure. His unwavering commitment and exemplary leadership have resulted in laudable and landmark projects that are a testament to President Tinubu's vision and determination.
“These projects are not just physical structures; they are symbols of progress and development, and they stand as a clear indication of President Tinubu's commitment to the well - being of the Igbo people. It is evident that Senator Dave Umahi has emerged as the new political leader of the Southeast. His ability to bring home numerous visible landmark federal road projects approved by President Tinubu has set a new standard in leadership.
The Igbo people recognise and appreciate this, and it is this very sentiment that has led to the decision to adopt President Tinubu as our consensus candidate.
Speaking on Peter Obi, the statement said: “It is a well - known fact that nature abhors a vacuum. The refusal of Mr Peter Obi to identify himself as an Igbo candidate in the forthcoming 2027 Presidential elections has created a void that needs to be filled. Mr Peter Obi's recent declaration that he is not running for the 2027 Presidency in the name of his Igbo tribe is a disappointing turn of events. His desperation to be President has led him to discard his Igbo identity, a move that has not gone unnoticed by the Igbo people.
“In the absence of a viable Igbo presidential candidate in 2027, and considering that it is the turn of Southern Nigeria to produce the President, the Igbo people have made a rational and strategic decision. They will officially adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Igbo consensus candidate for the 2027 elections. This decision is a direct result of President Tinubu's numerous favourable policies for the Igbo people and the significant federal road projects in the Southeast.
“The Igbo people are in dire need of the completion of all ongoing federal road projects in the Southeast from 2026 until 2031. They recognise that having Senator Dave Umahi as the Minister of Works under President Tinubu's administration is a guarantee for the successful completion of these projects. In contrast, the political gambles of opposition parties, filled with uncertainty, offer no such assurance.
“NDI-ABAT firmly believes that Mr Peter Obi and Mr Chibuike Ameachi should drop their 2027 Presidential ambitions. The reality is that their chances of winning are slim, and it is important to look towards the future. It is widely acknowledged that it will be the turn of the Igbo people to produce Nigeria's President in 2035 .By supporting President Tinubu in 2027, the Igbo people are not only showing gratitude for his current efforts but also laying the foundation for a more prosperous and inclusive future.”
