2027: Group urges Deputy Speaker Kalu to contest Abia governorship poll

The South East Youths for Progressives (SEY4P) has called on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, assuring him of overwhelming support from youths across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by its Publicity Secretary, Mercy Nwaogu, the group said the resolution was reached at its executive meeting held in Umuahia on Thursday.

According to the statement, the call reflects growing interest and agitation among young people who have continued to express confidence in Kalu’s leadership capacity and political direction.
The group noted that the renewed push for his governorship bid followed recent developments within the party, including the emergence of Chimamkpam Ogbonnaya as the APC South-East Zonal Youth Leader, which it said had reinvigorated enthusiasm and commitment among youths in the region.
SEY4P commended Kalu for what it described as his role in rebuilding trust among young people in the All Progressives Congress (APC), portraying him as a unifying figure whose leadership has encouraged greater youth participation in the party’s activities.
The group maintained that Kalu possesses the experience and vision required to drive development in Abia State, urging him to heed the growing calls and offer himself for service in 2027.
“Following our Chairman’s congratulatory message and subsequent engagements, we have received numerous enquiries from members and youths across the state, seeking to know whether Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be on the ballot in 2027. There is a clear and consistent assurance from these groups that they are ready to mobilize, support, and work tirelessly to ensure his emergence,” the statement read.
SEY4P further emphasized that its endorsement is rooted in the desire to promote credible, youth-friendly leadership capable of advancing development and inclusive governance in Abia State.
The group therefore urged the Deputy Speaker to heed the growing call and offer himself for service, assuring that the youths of Abia State stand firmly behind him.
