2027: Lagos youth unveils KOH ambassadors, back Hamzat for governor
Lagos youths, under the aegis of the Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat Youth Ambassador (KOHYA), on Saturday announced plans to support the endorsement of Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 Lagos State

Lagos youths, under the aegis of the Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat Youth Ambassador (KOHYA), on Saturday announced plans to support the endorsement of Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Hamzat, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, currently serves as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The group made its position known during the unveiling of KOH Youth Ambassadors across the 377 wards of Lagos State at the Sam Shonibare Youth Centre in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, the convener, Ibrahim Adigun, described KOHYA as a structured grassroots movement of politically engaged youths committed to shaping governance in the state.
He said the initiative represents a shift from passive observation to active participation, noting that Lagos youths are now organised, informed, and prepared to play a decisive role in political processes.

According to him, the movement operates as a civic and advocacy platform rather than a political party, anchored on evidence, accountability, and deliberate engagement.
“With an extensive structure covering all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas, including ward coordinators and media teams, KOHYA presents itself as a coordinated statewide force aimed at influencing leadership choices through organised action,” he said.
Adigun added that a major highlight of the group’s mandate is the endorsement of Hamzat for the 2027 governorship election.
He explained that the decision was based on Hamzat’s record in digital transformation, infrastructure development, national service, and what he described as demonstrated political maturity.
He emphasised that the endorsement was grounded in verifiable achievements rather than sentiment or political pressure.
The group also declared support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing his administration’s policies on youth inclusion, growth of the digital economy, student loan initiatives, and broader economic reforms.

KOHYA expressed confidence in the continuity of current policies as a pathway to long-term national development, while acknowledging existing challenges.
Adigun further outlined the group’s action plans, which include leadership mobilisation, statewide grassroots engagement, digital advocacy, and community outreach.
He called on Lagos youth to see themselves as active stakeholders in governance, emphasizing that the movement exists to transform youth participation into real political influence and to drive the vision of a “Greater Lagos” ahead of 2027.
Earlier, Mr. Quadri Odewunmi, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos State, said that Hamzat contributed immensely to the development of Lagos State in the area of technology and youth development.
In his response, Hamzat, represented by Mr. Femi Micheal, an APC leader from Apapa LG, expressed gratitude to the youth for giving him support, emphasizing that it means a lot.

He said the youths have done something today, which means they will never be forgotten. They were the largest population, and as such, they need to be considered during decision-making. "Hence, I valued what they are doing today."
"Hamzat is a very passionate person who thinks about the development of Lagos, but not someone who thinks about himself alone," he said.
In his remarks, Ms. Itunuoluwa Soniregun, one of the selected ambassadors, advocated for young people's inclusion in governance. "We are the generation that will inherit every decision made, so we need to be carried along," she said.
