The 2026 edition of the annual Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru Ramadan Lecture Series across the 16 councils in Lagos East Senatorial District has commenced in Kosofe and Ikorodu.

The topic Obedience to Authority and Respect for All Faiths resonated with attendees.

The message emphasised the importance of obedience to both spiritual and civic authority, while also promoting peaceful coexistence and interfaith harmony. Speakers underscored that Ramadan is not only a period of fasting and devotion but also a time for moral reflection and recommitment to values that strengthen society.

In his lecture, Sheikh Modiu Olundegun, said: “When leadership, whether spiritual or civic, is respected and promotes a culture of love and mutual regard, it creates a stable foundation for everyone to thrive regardless of personal creed.”

He urged Muslims to embody discipline, tolerance, and responsibility in their daily conduct.

At Ikorodu, the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu Division, Sheikh Seifudeen Olowooribi, commended Senator Abiru, who holds the revered title of Ekerin Adinni of Ikorodu Central Mosque, for sustaining what many described as a laudable and unifying initiative.

Some of the speakers acknowledged that the annual lecture series has grown into a vital platform that brings Muslims across Lagos East together for spiritually enriching discourse during Ramadan.

In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, support was also provided for fasting Muslims who attended the lecture series, further demonstrating the programme’s combination of spiritual engagement and social responsibility. Attendees expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as reflective of the compassion and generosity that define the holy month.
