A major defection hit the crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State yesterday.

No fewer than eight members of the House of Assembly elected on the platform resigned from the party.

The defectors are the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, and Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno, Moses Yerima Zah (Michika Constituency); Pwamwakeno Mackondo (Numan Constituency); Adun John Alaba (Uba Gaya Constituency); Bulus Kantom (Shelleng Constituency); Musa Mahmud Kallamu (Mayo Belwa); and Japhet Hammanjabu (Verre Constituency).

The lawmakers, who announced their decision during  plenary, attributed the action to the leadership crisis in the PDP at the national level.

However, they were silent on their next political party after dumping the PDP.

It was the third time the PDP would lose its member since Monday when Abdullahi Abubakar (Girei Constituency) defected; followed by the defection of six others on Tuesday.

Sources said the gale of defections is expected to culminate in the defection of the state party leader, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

Speculations are rife that the governor may soon leave the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Apparently, in anticipation of the defections, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) had put on hold the congresses in the state to accommodate new chieftains and enhance the equitable harmonisation of party structures.

Last night, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru confirmed that the party is anticipating a major political development in Adamawa State.

Speaking on a TVC programme, he  said  due to the situation, the party puts its congresses in the state on hold.
