Board members of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) and coaches have praised Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi for what they described as an unprecedented welfare package for athletes at the ongoing wrestling classic in Bayelsa State.

Speaking during yesterday's weigh-in for the ongoing  Governor Duoye Diri  National Wrestling Championships  at the Games Village, Bayelsa Palm, NWF Vice President Christopher Ankpila said the standard of accommodation and feeding surpassed anything athletes had previously experienced at the tournament.

"The accommodation and feeding are excellent — we have never had this before. This is like world-class accommodation," Ankpila said, adding that athletes had full access to necessary facilities and quality meals.

North-West board member Umar Abubakar echoed the sentiment, describing the welfare arrangements as the best in the competition's 14-year history.

"Quality food and good hostels have been provided. This is the first of its kind," he said.

Delta State Wrestling Association coach and former African champion Joe Oziti called it the best competition he had attended in Bayelsa, noting it was the first where athletes received free meals.

The NCS Comptroller General doubles as President of the NWF.
