Benin City witnessed a flurry of personal bests and standout performances as the opening day of the AFN Golden League Series lit up the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium with thrilling action across track and field events.

In the men’s senior Discus Throw final, Nyherhovwo Benaiah Ofuoku dominated with a commanding throw of 45.95m to claim top spot. The 19-year-old’s mark was a new personal best, reinforcing his growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s brightest prospects.

Chineme Akachiukwu Nweke placed second with 38.10m (PB) while Emmanuel Shakamomodu Audu finished third with a season’s best of 36.27m.

On the track, Chidera Ezeakor stormed to victory in the men’s 100m, clocking 10.32s (+0.4). Tejiri Godwin followed in 10.37s (PB) while Gift Bright secured third in 10.49s (PB), underlining the impressive sprint depth on display.

In the women’s 100m final, Chinonso Courage Odika powered home in 11.69s to edge Mariam Jegede (11.74s), while Ejiro Peter claimed third in 11.76s.

The men’s long jump produced fireworks as Romeo Bernard soared to 7.63m (+0.6) to clinch victory with a personal best. Hope Okoro and Nkemakolam Godswill both recorded 7.35m, with Okoro taking second on count back.

In the women’s senior Javelin Throw (600g), Victoria Effiom Kparika delivered the standout performance of the day with a personal best of 47.89m. Peace Udochukwu Eze followed with 43.27m (PB), while Gladys Ugbome placed third with 30.79m.
