Agbebaku unveils score card, declares for 2027, hails Okpebholo, others

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku on Friday formally declared his intention to seek re-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the Owan West Constituency seat in the 2027 State Assembly polls, citing unfinished assignments and the need to retain the Speakership for the benefit of his people.
He made the declaration at the Owan West LGA APC Secretariat in Sabongidda-Ora, where he was received by the Chairman, Hon. Frank David, and other party executives.
An elated Agbebaku thanked the APC executives in Owan West for their role in ensuring the success of recent endorsement events.

“I am here to tell the people of Owan West that the work they sent me to do is not yet finished,” the Speaker said, adding, “We should not lose the Speakership because of the benefits it brings to our people.”
He also commended party chieftain High Chief Lucky Ohimai, popularly known as Tarex, for his contributions to the APC in Owan West. “I want to thank my brother, High Chief Lucky Ohimai, for all he is doing for the party. We will continue to work together for the development of Owan West,” Agbebaku stated.
Agbebaku who presented his scorecard, listed key projects executed during his tenure including the completion of the Sabongidda-Ora–Ugbubezi –Sobe road, provision of solar streetlights and distribution of electricity transformers to various communities, supply of medical equipment, a utility vehicle, and a soundproof generator to Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital; ongoing renovation of PHC Oke Old Ora and Uzebba General Hospital, which is currently receiving intervention.
Besides, he also aided the construction of a block of classrooms at Umeahi Central School, Uzebba; scholarships for indigent students, enrollment of over 600 students for JAMB-UTME and NECO examinations, and provision of motorcycles to farmers and youths to ease the transportation of produce, among other initiatives.
The Speaker also expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for retaining him as Speaker. “I want to specially thank our amiable State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo. Owan West is saying thank you for retaining their son as Speaker,” he said.

Also speaking on the occasion, the House of Representatives Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, described Agbebaku’s performance as commendable. “Owan West is complete. Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku has performed and will continue to perform. He is not just a leader; he is a leader with compassion and capacity. For me, I endorse him 100 percent. Congratulations,” Ihonvbere said.
Sir Hon. Mike Ohio-Ezomo, former EDHA lawmaker, Chairman of BORBDA and Executive Director in the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, called for unity and noted the value of legislative experience. “Owan West is one. Let us put the past behind us and move on as one. He was our DG during our campaign. He campaigned for us, and we must also remember those good days. In legislative business, experience plays an important role. I want to congratulate you in advance,” he said.

The Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council, Hon. Joy Ohonyon, urged constituents not to lose the Speakership. “Let us not lose what we currently possess. By God’s grace, he will be inaugurated in the Assembly for another term,” she said.
Former EDHA Speaker, Rt. Hon. Joe Ekpekhio, also backed Agbebaku’s bid. “He has conducted himself in a good manner. In terms of legislative functions, he has done very well. As far as I am concerned, he is very qualified to seek a second term. He has touched lives,” Ekpekhio stated.
Dr. Mrs. Inumidun Idehen, in her remarks, lauded the Speaker’s developmental strides and called on all stakeholders to support his re-election drive.
Also present at the event was the Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu, Deputy Majority Leader Hon Adeh Emakhu Isibor, Member Representing Esan Central Constituency, Hon Fada, Member Representing Igueben Constituency Hon Eugene Inegbeboh amongst other teaming personalities at the flag off.
