Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural development, particularly poultry farming, through the introduction of the Adiye Irorun agribusiness empowerment programme.
The initiative is designed to support youths and women engaged in poultry production as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s agribusiness sector and improve livelihoods.
As part of the programme’s second phase, the state government is set to disburse over N15 million to beneficiaries under the poultry-focused empowerment scheme.
The cheque presentation, organised by the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre (OSAEC), is scheduled to hold at the Isuada Centre in Alagbaka, Akure.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Chairman of OSAEC, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, said the initiative aligns with the state government’s OUR EASE development agenda, which prioritises sustainable agriculture as a tool for economic growth and social development.
Akinsola disclosed that more than N15 million would be distributed to participants in the second cycle of the programme, noting that the first phase had earlier seen the disbursement of N8.5 million.
He explained that the programme is being implemented across the three senatorial districts of the state to ensure broad participation and inclusiveness.
According to him, hundreds of youths and women have already benefited from the scheme, with participants undergoing structured screening, training in poultry farming, and practical experience at designated farm centres before receiving financial support.
"Each cycle runs for six weeks, during which participants engage in poultry production. Government provides inputs such as chicks, feed, medication and technical support," he said.
Akinsola added that proceeds from the sale of birds at the end of each cycle are used to recover production costs, while profits are shared among participants.
"This model ensures sustainability while empowering beneficiaries with income and practical skills."
Mr Akinsola disclosed that the Isuada centre in Ondo North has completed its second cycle, while the Ore centre in Ondo South has completed its first, with the second already underway.
He added that the Ondo Central centre will soon commence operations, noting that the cheque presentation event would also serve to raise awareness, showcase impact and encourage wider participation in the programme.
The chairman described the initiative as a practical model for youth empowerment, women inclusion, agribusiness development and poverty reduction.
He also highlighted the complementary Eyin Irorun Programme, which makes eggs available to residents at subsidised rates.
Mr Akinsola urged residents to take advantage of the programme by visiting OSAEC offices, noting that the administration’s agricultural policies are already yielding positive results.
