A coalition of concerned stakeholders and interest groups in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency has rejected any move by the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. George Olawande Adegeye, to seek re-election to the House of Representatives, citing what it described as poor performance.

The group reached the decision on Saturday after a strategic consultative meeting to review the lawmaker’s representation and developmental impact in the constituency.

In a statement jointly signed by its convener, Comrade Adesiyan Adebola, and secretary, Mrs. Ekanem Edet, the coalition accused Adegeye, popularly known as Omogeye, of failing to deliver the expected dividends of democracy.

They criticised his repeated claim that his opposition status in the National Assembly limited his access to funding, describing the justification as inadequate and unconvincing.

According to the coalition, several opposition lawmakers across the country, including in Lagos State, have continued to attract projects, facilitate empowerment programmes, and provide effective representation despite similar political constraints.

“The coalition of concerned stakeholders and interest groups across Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, comprising professional associations, youth bodies, women groups, community development leaders, religious stakeholders, market representatives, and civil society advocates, has unanimously rejected any attempt by Hon. George Olawande Adegeye to seek a second term in office,” the statement said.

“Our decision followed a strategic consultative meeting convened to critically assess the state of representation and developmental impact of the current lawmaker on the constituency.

“We are disappointed by the absence of impactful representation, visible constituency projects, strategic empowerment initiatives, and effective legislative advocacy expected from a federal lawmaker.

“Particularly concerning is his repeated public claim that he has been denied access to funding due to his opposition status. This explanation is weak and unacceptable, given that other opposition lawmakers continue to deliver for their constituents despite similar realities.”

The coalition maintained that effective representation requires competence, strategic engagement, and commitment to constituents rather than excuses.

It added that it would explore all lawful and constitutional options, including possible legal action and formal petitions, to demand accountability for Adegeye’s stewardship and legislative contributions.

The group insisted that the 2027 general elections should produce purposeful, accountable, and people-oriented leadership, urging the lawmaker to abandon any re-election plans in the interest of the constituency.
