A total of 287 delegates from Jigawa State are set to participate in the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to hold in Abuja.

The State Chairman of the party, Ahmed Garba Maikudi, disclosed this shortly after a State Executive Committee meeting held in Dutse, the state capital.

Maikudi said the meeting was convened to finalise preparations for the trip, noting that the delegation would depart on Friday ahead of the convention slated for Saturday.

“As you can see, we held a meeting in preparation for our trip to Abuja for the party’s national convention coming up this week. The delegation will leave Jigawa on Friday, while the convention holds on Saturday,” he said.

He confirmed that the list of delegates had already been submitted to the party’s national headquarters, adding that all logistics had been concluded for a seamless outing.

“Well, so far so good. We thank God. We have already submitted the list of delegates to the national headquarters, and all arrangements have been concluded. Everything is going perfectly,” he added.

Providing a breakdown, the chairman explained that the delegation comprises both elected and statutory delegates, including former members of the National Assembly, ex-governors and their deputies, as well as former principal officers of the State House of Assembly.

He noted that each of the 27 local government areas produced three elected delegates, totalling 81.

“In all, when combined with statutory delegates, Jigawa State is presenting about 287 delegates for the convention,” he said.

Maikudi also reiterated the party’s preference for consensus in decision-making, describing it as a stabilising mechanism within the APC.

“There is progress when you look at the national outlook. APC, as a party, believes that consensus is one of the best approaches in a democracy, and we have achieved that arrangement. All our leaders agree, and delegates have been duly informed,” he stated.

The development underscores a united front by the Jigawa APC as it heads into the convention, with party leaders aligning behind a consensus-driven process aimed at ensuring a hitch-free exercise.
