The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday continued with preparations for next month’s National Convention with the inauguration of a 92-member National Convention Coordinating Committee by the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda..

The committee headed by former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari is expected to coordinate other sub-committees that would work collectively to ensure a hitch-free convention.

Other members are former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim  Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Vice Chairmen), and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma (Treasurer).

Former National Caretaker Committee Chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni will serve as Secretary.

The committee would be assisted by 17 sub- committees set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) to coordinate critical operational, administrative, electoral, logistics, security, and programmes activities.

They include Screening Appeal Committee , Election Committee, Venue Committee, Security Committee, Election Appeal Committee, Finance Committee, Media and Publicity Committee, and Ceremonial, Programme and Event Committee.

Other sub-committes are  Delegates Accreditation Committee, Protocol Committee, Accommodation and Transportation Committee, Entertainment and Welfare Committee.

The 42-member Aspirants Committee, headed by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji,  has as members Kogi State Governor Governors Usman Ododo (Co-Chairman); former Senate President Senator Ken Nnamani (Vice Chairman); former Bauchi State Governor Isah Yuguda (Secretary) and former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu (Assistant Secretary).

Others members include: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Senator Gbenga Daniel; Senator Ben Ayade, Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Sarafa Alli, Adebayo Adelabu, Dr isa Muhammed, and Senator Uche Lilian  Ekwunife.Yilwatda, who inaugurated the committee at the party secretariat in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), charged members to rise above sentiment and ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.

Describing the proposed convention as a significant milestone in the party’s progressive journey, Yilwatda said: “A convention like ours is not merely a gathering; it is an affirmation of our democratic values and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised and forward-looking political party in the country. “

The chairman noted that the recent victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local government elections and parliamentary by-elections in Kano and Rivers states attested to the strength of the party and its growing acceptance.

He urged committee members to rise above partisan interests and deliver a convention befitting of the ruling party.

Masari promised that the committee will organise a peaceful, credible and transparent convention. .

Thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in members, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said the committee accepted the responsibility with a strong sense of duty and commitment to the ideals of the ruling party.

He said the national convention was more than a statutory requirement, describing it as a defining moment for reflection, consolidation, and renewed commitment to internal democracy and unity.

Masari said: “The task before this committee is clear. We are to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible, and successful 2026 National Convention. We must approach this assignment with maturity, fairness, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines.”
