Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos Mainland Local Government, under the umbrella of Mainland Voice (MV), have conducted a shadow primary to gauge support for aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives, Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The exercise, organised by the Mainland Voice Campaign Forum (MVCF) through a collegiate system, had 82 delegates participating.

Aspirants in the shadow poll included the incumbent lawmaker, Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun; former council chairman, Rasheedat Omolola Essien; Kazeem K. Omolaja; and Mr. Sawyer.

At the end of the exercise, Omolaja polled 44 votes, recording the highest support among participants. Essien secured 26 votes, Oshun got eight votes, while Sawyer polled two votes. Two votes were declared void.

Participants described the process as peaceful and transparent, noting that it reflected the views of members within the group.

Some members said the shadow poll's outcome indicated a shift in preference among participants, citing the need for broader engagement and renewed political strategy within the constituency.

They also referenced recent local electoral outcomes in parts of the constituency as part of ongoing political developments in the area.

Meanwhile, political activities in Lagos Mainland continue to attract attention, with various stakeholders engaging in consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Residents of Ebute-Metta (West), under the aegis of Lagos Mainland (West) stakeholders, also raised concerns over what they described as marginalisation in the council's political structure.

In a statement, they said the area has not produced an elected official or political appointee since 1999 despite its contributions to electoral outcomes.

They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor’s Advisory Council, and the state leadership of the APC to address the concerns.
