An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Hakeem Alao, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, presenting a four-point agenda centred on agriculture, education, healthcare, and civil service reform.
Alao made the declaration at an event held at the Emmanuel Alayande Teachers Resource Centre, Samonda, Ibadan, where he addressed party members and supporters on his vision for the state.
The engineer-turned-politician said his policy direction is anchored on tackling hunger and improving the welfare of residents, identifying agriculture as the cornerstone of his agenda.

He stressed the need to boost food production, noting that despite increased federal allocations since the administration of President Bola Tinubu began, investment in agricultural productivity at the state level has remained inadequate.
Alao pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise investment in cash crops, food crops, and animal husbandry to achieve food security for Oyo State and contribute to the broader needs of the Southwest and the country.
Describing himself as a lifelong farmer, he expressed confidence in agriculture as a sustainable driver of economic growth, adding that any nation that prioritises farming can sufficiently feed its population.
On party affairs, the aspirant urged President Tinubu to engage stakeholders in Oyo State ahead of the APC primaries. He advocated an inclusive process, whether through consensus or direct primaries, emphasising the need for consultations with party leaders to guide the selection of candidates.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Alao recalled the 2022 governorship primaries, where he lost to Teslim Folarin, noting that he remained committed to the party and actively supported its candidates during the election.
He ruled out the possibility of defection, insisting that true progressives remain consistent in their political ideology.
Alao also called on the people of Oyo State to unite and support his ambition, expressing confidence in his capacity to transform the state through enhanced food security, improved healthcare, and a higher standard of living.
