The Nigerian Army has explained the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, over allegations linked to interactions with serving soldiers.

The Army said the action followed complaints from some personnel about feeding and welfare, which the influencer shared on social media.

In a clarification issued on May 2, 2026, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the matter was under investigation for a possible breach of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public.

Preliminary findings, according to the Army, indicated that the soldiers engaged Chidiebere in discussions covering a wide range of issues, with evidence that the influencer encouraged conversations that could create discontent within the system.

The Army said one exchange under review bordered on subversive conduct, raising concerns about the implications of civilian interactions with military personnel that could undermine discipline and national security.

It said that such engagements, especially when they influence vulnerable personnel toward subversive actions, pose serious risks to the stability and operational integrity of the armed forces.

The statement said Chidiebere was picked up alongside the soldiers involved for investigation.

It added that while the soldiers remained in military custody, the blogger was handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, noting it would continue to work with appropriate agencies to ensure justice is served.

It also stressed that all actions taken in the matter were within legal bounds and in line with its responsibility to safeguard national security.
