The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the Nigerian Army is committed to strengthening professional military education through strategic collaboration with international defence institutions.

Lt.-Gen. Shaibu said this when he received a delegation from the United States Defence Security Cooperation University (DSCU), led by retired Major General Miguel Casteyanos, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement by Army's spokesperson, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the COAS noted that professional military education remains a cornerstone in building a modern and adaptive fighting force capable of confronting the myriad of security challenges confronting the nation.

He said the Nigerian Army would continue to subscribe to relevant DSCU courses, particularly those designed to enhance defence management, logistics systems, and institutional capacity across the Service.

The COAS emphasised that exposing personnel to specialised training programmes and international academic platforms would sharpen strategic thinking, improve defence management practices and deepen institutional knowledge.

He added that such initiatives are essential for preparing troops to effectively manage complex operational and administrative responsibilities in contemporary military environments.

Casteyanoss explained that DSCU’s engagement with the Nigerian Army focuses on institutional capacity building to help partner nations sustain and replicate military capabilities over time.

He emphasised that the university provides specialised courses and advisory support that strengthen defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

Casteyanoss said ongoing collaboration with the Nigerian Army includes initiatives to support institutional systems such as material readiness, reporting, and life-cycle management frameworks.

He said that continued participation of Nigerian Army personnel in DSCU programmes would reinforce professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development within the Army.
