The Edo State Government has begun efforts to settle the rift between Ossiomo Power and its Chinese partner, Jiangsu Communication Clean Energy Technology Co., Ltd (CCETC).

Ossiomo Power used to provide 24-hour electricity to its customers in Benin City and the surrounding areas from its power plant in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

It no longer generates electricity due to a disagreement with CCETC following the shutdown of its power plant.

Edo Commissioner for Power, Hon Paul Usenbo, said the state government's plan to resolve the conflict was part of a broader plan to ensure residents enjoy an adequate power supply.

Hon Usenbo spoke in Benin City at a stakeholders' engagement meeting on power supply improvement.

Usenbo said the state government was considering establishing a committee to resolve the impasse between Ossiomo and its Chinese partners.

According to him, "Edo is looking at how to strengthen power generation, improve transmission and stabilise distribution. Resolutions at the engagement meeting will be put into action."

On the Ossiomo Power issue, he said, "Yes that is being looked at. There is succour and solutions on the way."

"The Ministry has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several companies for the generation of up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity. It is also in the final stages of concluding an agreement with a foreign company to develop 100MW of solar capacity.

"We have partnered with the Federal Government to enhance power generation and distribution through the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) facility in Ihovbor.

"Overall, these initiatives reflect the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the provision of stable, reliable, and affordable electricity for the people of Edo State, while also supporting economic growth and industrial development."
