Leading mobility platform Bolt, in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Abuja has concluded a road safety education programme for its driver-partners and couriers in Abuja, reinforcing both organisations’ shared commitment to safer roads in Nigeria.
The engagement brought together over 100 driver-partners and couriers for practical sessions led by FRSC, FCT Sector Command officials, focusing on responsible driving behaviour, traffic law compliance, fatigue management, defensive driving skills and the prevention of drunk driving.
The programme forms part of a broader effort to strengthen awareness among professional drivers and reduce avoidable road incidents.
During the sessions, participants received guidance on key traffic regulations including speed limits, seatbelt use, overtaking rules and safe driving practices. Drivers were also educated on the risks of fatigue and alcohol-impaired driving, and encouraged to prioritise rest and responsible conduct while operating on Nigerian roads.
Speaking on the collaboration, Bolt's Head of Regulatory and Policy, Africa, Weyinmi Aghadiuno said: “Safety is fundamental to how mobility platforms operate, and it goes beyond technology. Partnering with the FRSC allows us to equip our driver-partners and couriers with practical knowledge to navigate Nigerian roads safely every day. Our goal is to ensure that both drivers and riders feel confident using the platform while contributing to safer cities overall.”

The programme also highlighted insights from Bolt’s Safety Perception Survey released last year. The findings showed that two-thirds of respondents believe ride-hailing helps reduce drunk driving by providing a reliable transport alternative. The collaboration with FRSC therefore reinforces the importance of driver education and responsible driving practices, ensuring that safety benefits are strengthened not only for riders but for all road users.
The FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Felix N. Theman commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of partnerships in improving road safety outcomes.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Continuous education and compliance with traffic regulations are critical in preventing road crashes. We commend Bolt for working with the Corps to sensitise its drivers and couriers, and we encourage all road users to prioritise safe driving practices at all times.”
The sensitisation programme featured presentations, interactive sessions and an open engagement with drivers, allowing participants to ask questions directly and receive clarifications on road regulations and safe operational practices.
Both organisations noted that collaborations between regulators and private sector mobility platforms can significantly improve safety outcomes by combining education, awareness and responsible driving behaviour.
