The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has advocated for sustained vigilance among Nigerians and a more coordinated approach by security agencies to avert a recurrence of the latest attacks in parts of Maiduguri, Borno State.

In a statement on Wednesday, the NGF Chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, expressed profound shock and sorrow over the incident.

Governor Abdulrazaq was quoted as saying, “We are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the terrorist attacks that struck parts of Maiduguri, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of Borno State. We also wish those injured a swift and full recovery.”

NGF's Director, Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Abdullahi, further quoted the Kwara State Governor as assuring

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State sought the forum’s full support during this difficult period.

He described the attacks as a grave violation of the peace and security that all Nigerians collectively strive to uphold.

The NGF Chairman noted that such acts of violence, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, constitute a profound affront to shared humanity and the sacred values of the season.

He commended the swift and coordinated response of the Borno State Government, the military, and emergency services, whose prompt actions helped to prevent further loss of life.

Governor Abdulrazaq also acknowledged Governor Zulum’s steadfast leadership and his tireless commitment to rebuilding the state and restoring peace despite persistent security challenges.

He noted that "this tragedy underscores the urgent need for sustained vigilance and a more unified, coordinated approach to security across all subnational governments.

"The NGF stands firmly with the government and people of Borno State and calls on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous act, while strengthening measures to safeguard all Nigerians.

"Borno State has consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. "The NGF remains confident that the state will overcome this tragedy and emerge stronger and more united," he said.
