The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed it will issue an official decision within the next 24 hours regarding the future of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The continental governing body made this known in a brief but significant statement shared across its official communication platforms, revealing that the matter has been under extensive and high-level deliberations in recent weeks.

The development follows a formal request from host nation Morocco seeking a postponement of the tournament. While CAF did not disclose full details surrounding the request, insiders indicate that scheduling concerns and broader calendar implications have been central to discussions.

“CAF will communicate within the next 48 hours on the situation regarding the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON26. There have been several discussions over the past weeks. The matter is receiving urgent and high-level attention,” the  CAF statement noted.

With national teams already intensifying preparations for Africa’s flagship women’s football tournament, the pending decision is expected to provide clarity on timelines, logistics, and qualification pathways.
