A coalition of civil society organisations has written to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, requesting a formal review and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported disappearance of a man identified as Onimisi.
In a letter dated February 26 and addressed to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, the coalition—comprising the Centre for Rights Advocacy and Protection, Arise Nigeria for Human Rights and Policy Advocacy, and Integrity in Nigeria—said it was prompted to act following a trending video in which the matter was discussed.
The petition, signed by Dr. Chinedu Ohalete, Convener of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, called for a thorough and professional examination of the issues raised, in line with due process and fairness to all concerned.

The groups emphasised the need for careful verification of information and cautioned against public speculation that could heighten anxiety. They also stressed that all individuals referenced in the matter are entitled to the presumption of innocence pending the outcome of any official investigation.
The coalition encouraged the police to explore appropriate mechanisms, including international cooperation where necessary, to obtain clarifications that may assist investigators.
The organisations ultimately called on the police to constitute an investigation panel to review available information, invite relevant persons for questioning, and handle the matter in accordance with the rule of law and the protection of human rights.
