The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has directed strategic Nigerian Navy (NN) commanders and units/establishments heads to intensify operations and leverage intelligence and technology to combat maritime crimes and defend the nation’s territorial integrity.
Abbas spoke during a strategic meeting with Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs), commanders of Tri-Service operations, operational bases and logistics groups at the naval headquarters on Tuesday.
The meeting, held four months after he assumed office, aimed at reviewing and strengthening naval operations across all spectrums in line with the NN’s Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy.
Reaffirming the Navy’s core values of professionalism, integrity and teamwork, the CNS urged commanders to sustain operational momentum and collaborate closely with other security agencies to enhance maritime security.
Abbas applauded the operational successes recorded under the Navy’s flagship Operation DELTA SENTINEL and other operations.

The CNS noted that intelligence-led and technology-driven efforts resulted in the seizure of stolen crude oil, destruction of illegal refining sites, arrests of illegal bunkerers and improved search-and-rescue missions.

He said the operations have ensured zero piracy in Nigeria’s waters, boosted oil production and saved the country billions of naira that could have been lost to criminal activities.
Abbas assured the Nigerian Navy that the Federal Government would continue to support the service through strategic investments to strengthen operations and improve personnel welfare.
The naval chief also praised the service’s contributions to ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across joint theatres nationwide.
He urged commanders to sustain collaboration with sister services and other security agencies.
According to him, expectations from the Presidency were high.
Abbas urged the commanders to work assiduously to accomplish assigned tasks.
The CNS also reiterated his command philosophy of discipline, integrity, merit, accountability and personnel welfare, stressing that merit must be rewarded to motivate personnel.
He urged commanders to take personal responsibility for the men and materiel under their command and to utilise available resources judiciously to strengthen the system.
