The Conference of 57 Local Councils in Lagos State (Conference 57) has organized a two-day workshop at the Watercress Hotel, Ikeja.
The training programme had in attendance council chairmen, auditors, procurement officers and heads of various departments.
Tagged Fiscal Administrative Due Process and Enhanced Internal Revenue Generation, it was meant to improve staff productivity and revenue generation.
Chairman of Conference 57, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, in his opening remarks, said the association decided to build capacity to ensure due process and add value to citizens through proper procurement and accountability.

Olowa, who doubles as the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), stated that the overall goal was to ensure councils perform well, deliver mandates and operate within the law.
According to him, council leaders must deliver good governance at the grassroots.
He said: “We are the third tier of government, and there is now greater emphasis on transparency and accountability. As local government chairmen, our major responsibility is to deliver good governance to the grassroots. We will ensure value for money. This is one of several training workshops we are organising”.
Conference 57 Publicity Secretary, Adebayo Olasoju, described the workshop as impactful and engaging.
Olasoju, the Chairman of Isolo LCDA, said Lagos councils were delivering large-scale projects, including hospitals, roads and sports facilities.
“Compared to other states, Lagos stands out because of effective systems and governance. We cannot afford to betray the public trust. This is one of the best training sessions for productivity and efficiency. The sessions are interactive and highly educational. The takeaway is improved performance and recognition of Lagos councils in service delivery,” he said.
Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sanni Okanlawon, described the training as “excellent” and beneficial.
He said that the training promotes transparency, accountability and due process in governance.
“We hold public resources in trust and must remain transparent and accountable in discharging our duties,” he said.
Council Manager of Bariga LCDA, Layi Giwa, said the training would enhance productivity and service delivery.
“This sets a benchmark for other councils nationwide. We expect improved service delivery after this training and will uphold government standards,” he said.
Giwa added that the workshop would strengthen due diligence and adherence to rules at the grassroots.
“We commend the organisers and urge that such training should be sustained regularly,” he said.
