Lookman, who joined Atletico Madrid from Atalanta for €40 million last month, has enjoyed a dream start to life in Spain. He was instrumental in Atletico’s stunning 4-0 thrashing of the Catalan giants in the first leg at the Metropolitano, a result that has turned tonight’s return fixture into the "mother of all battles."
Despite the four-goal cushion, Simeone is taking nothing for granted. He has called for a disciplined approach against the reigning La Liga champions, who failed to score in a domestic match for the first time this season during that first-leg collapse.
"We are focused only on the match ahead of us," Simeone told reporters, via Football Espana. "We are facing a very good opponent—attacking, open, and cohesive. They remain one of the most competitive sides in both La Liga and Europe."
Lookman’s impact since his arrival has been nothing short of devastating. After recording a goal and an assist on his debut against Real Betis, the 28-year-old overshadowed Barcelona’s "star boy" Lamine Yamal in the first leg, contributing another goal and assist to the 4-0 rout.
Simeone hinted that he intends to exploit the same tactical vulnerabilities tonight, specifically by using Lookman to stifle Yamal’s influence by forcing the teenager to defend.

"He [Yamal] is an individually gifted player, especially unpredictable in the final stages," Simeone noted. "We have to take advantage of the opportunities provided in attack and force him into positions where he feels most uncomfortable, which is defending."
In the first leg, whenever Yamal pushed forward, Lookman exploited the vacated space down Atletico’s left flank, repeatedly terrorizing Jules Koundé. Simeone’s comments suggest a repeat of this blueprint is on the cards.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s German head coach Hansi Flick admitted his side faces a monumental task but refused to wave the white flag.
“We are four goals behind and we have to make the impossible possible. That is the objective,” Flick told reporters. “It is not easy, but we will not give up.”
Atletico currently sit third in La Liga, 13 points adrift of Barcelona. With a Champions League Round of 16 tie against Tottenham on the horizon, securing a spot in their first Copa del Rey final since 2012/13 would be a massive statement of intent for Simeone’s men.
