National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria has recommended former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, for continued service to the nation.

In a letter dated March 24, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the council said the former minister possesses the “capacity and capability” to handle national assignments.

The recommendation, signed by Etsu Nupe and Chair of the council’s Coordinating Committee, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, noted Kennedy-Ohanenye’s determination makes her a “willing tool” whose services should be further harnessed for national development.

The council recalled that during her tenure from August 2023 to 2025, the former minister redirected the ministry’s focus from seminar-based engagements to practical empowerment initiatives targeting women and children.

It listed her achievements to include introduction of a Gender-Based Violence Mobile Court, which helped reduce abuse, as well as “Integrity Brigade” to tackle sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.

The rulers also lauded her collaboration with them in the campaign against female genital mutilation, noting it had stopped in many kingdoms, emirates and chiefdoms.

They further noted her push for digital inclusion through distribution of Point-of-Sale machines in 36 states and FCT, enabling rural women to participate in digital commerce.

According to the council, Kennedy-Ohanenye’s record and engagement with traditional institutions position her as a strong candidate to support government’s efforts in rural sensitisation and improving ease of doing business.
