There was tension in Onibueja community on Osogbo/Iwo Road yesterday after operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service(NCS) allegedly shot a driver dead.
The Nation gathered that the operatives,, who were in mufti, were on the patrol along the route. They drove a white Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 400 GQ (Lagos) for the operation.
It was learnt that the incident occurred around 10am when the driver, who was going from Iwo to Osogbo, was chased to a police checkpoint.
In a video, blood stains were observed at the driver seat as residents of the area carried the driver.
Bullet penetrated from the back door of the driver’s side and hit the deceased from the back leading to his death.
The police spokesperson of the state Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, adding the perpetrators are Customs operatives.

A resident of the community, simply identified as Shuiab, said: “We heard sound of gunshot at Onibueja Road via the sawmill very close to NSCDC office, fear gripped us but we felt the area should be secured because of security command in the area, some of us summoned courage to go to the area.
“We found out that a driver had been killed by operatives in mufti, the incident happened at the road block mounted by police but it was the custom officers that perpetrated the dastard act.”
Ojelabi added: “The incident happened but those that allegedly fired the shot are Customs operatives. We have arrested two people in connection with the incident.
“The suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel were reportedly chasing suspected foreign-used vehicles when the incident occurred.
“Following the report, police operatives responded and apprehended the two officers, the driver of the said ash Toyota Corolla was shot and confirmed dead by a medical doctor in the state University Teaching Hospital.
“During the operation, we recovered one Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one expanded shell of 9mm, one white Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 400 GQ (Lagos), 1 ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982 (Texas).”
He said the suspects are in police custody.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
