The 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) season intensified Saturday at the SunBet Arena, as Dar City Basketball Club maintained its perfect start and defending champions Petro de Luanda opened their campaign with a decisive victory.

Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Dar City Basketball Club improved to 2–0 in its inaugural BAL season, securing a gritty 90–85 win over Kenya’s Nairobi City Thunder.

The contest was defined by a masterful performance from David Michineau, who dismantled the Thunder defense for a game-high 39 points, falling just shy of a triple-double with eight rebounds and seven assists. Support came from Nisre Zouzoua, whose 20 points and five boards proved critical in neutralizing a late-game surge from Nairobi. The victory cements Dar City’s position as a top contender in the Kalahari Conference.

In the evening’s marquee matchup—a highly anticipated rematch of the 2024 BAL Final—Petro de Luanda (Angola) delivered a statement win, clinical in their 104–90 defeat of Al Ahly Ly (Libya).

Petro established an early rhythm and never looked back, orchestrated by point guard Childe Dundao, who finished with 27 points. Milton Valente provided high-efficiency scoring in the paint, contributing 19 points on near-perfect 9-of-11 shooting. The win serves as an emphatic start for the Angolan giants as they look to defend their continental reputation.
