Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development under Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Adamu, who had distanced himself from the wave of defections involving the governor and members of his administration last Friday, formally announced on Monday that he had stepped down from the state executive council with immediate effect.

In his resignation letter made available to journalists late Monday, Adamu said his decision followed “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.”

He expressed appreciation to Fintiri for the opportunity to serve in his cabinet and thanked the people of Adamawa State for their “steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support” during his tenure as commissioner.

Fintiri had on Friday, February 27, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside virtually all key officials in his administration.

Adamu was among only three commissioners who declined to join the defection at the time. A total of 22 commissioners, 39 special advisers, and the entire state executive committee of the PDP in Adamawa moved to the APC in the sweeping political realignment.
