...Aniagwu highlights governor's inclusive governance model

Traditional rulers across Delta State have thrown their weight behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, calling on residents to sustain support for his administration’s programmes and policies.

The royal fathers, drawn from the three senatorial districts, said continued public cooperation remains essential to consolidating gains in governance, infrastructure and economic development.

Their position was made known during a high-profile gathering at Odogwu Hall, Orodje Palace in Ororokpe, which brought together first-class and recognised traditional rulers from across the state.

The event served as a platform to reinforce collaboration between traditional institutions and government.

The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Major General Felix Mujakperuo (retd), while Delta North monarchs were led by HRM Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, Obi of Owa Kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of Delta North traditional rulers, the Obi and Paramount Ruler of Abavo Kingdom, HRM King Uche Irenuma, commended Oborevwori for what he described as visible strides in infrastructure, economic growth and people-oriented governance.

He noted that development projects and improvements in road networks and public facilities were evident across the state, urging Deltans to support the administration irrespective of political or ethnic differences.

The monarch also stressed the need for political stability, calling on residents to back the governor for a second term to sustain ongoing development and preserve the state’s informal power-sharing arrangement among the senatorial districts.

According to him, the rotational understanding has helped maintain peace and balance in the state’s political system, warning that any disruption could trigger tension.

The traditional rulers further pledged their commitment to maintaining peace in their domains, highlighting their role in conflict resolution and grassroots mobilisation in support of government initiatives.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the inclusive governance approach of the Oborevwori administration had positioned the governor as a strong voice on national unity.

Aniagwu, who spoke on the sidelines of a centenary lecture of the Yoruba Tennis Club in Lagos where the governor delivered a guest lecture, said the administration had ensured equitable distribution of projects and appointments across ethnic groups in the state.

He added that the governor used the platform to advocate national dialogue on issues such as rotational presidency and equitable resource distribution, stressing the need for legal backing to make such arrangements binding.

The commissioner said the administration’s focus on fairness, inclusiveness and targeted development had strengthened social harmony in Delta State and provided a model for national cohesion.
