After weeks of simmering tension, voices that once clashed at Cable community in Asaba, Delta State, found rare alignment in a crowded hall where leaders, youths and ethnic representatives chose dialogue over division.
Convened by High Chief Innocent Ogwudile, the meeting did more than calm nerves—it produced a sweeping peace pact anchored on jobs for idle youths, a crackdown on drugs and shared responsibility for security.
Beneath the speeches and stern warnings lay a simple message: the future of Cable depends on what its people are willing to fix together now.
Ogwudile said the gathering also served as a diagnostic session to identify political and social pressures driving unrest, stressing that peace and residents’ welfare remain top priorities.
He urged youths to embrace productive ventures, warning against cultism and other criminal activities linked to idleness.
The community’s Chief Security Officer, Ikechukwu Ubogagu, issued a stern warning against further disturbances, declaring zero tolerance for crime. He said offenders would be arrested and handed over to authorities, noting that while police directives supported enforcement, the community opted for dialogue as a first step.

A key outcome of the meeting was an agreement to intensify the fight against illicit drugs, identified as a major trigger of violence.
Security teams have been empowered to raid drug hotspots, arrest dealers and support rehabilitation efforts.
To strengthen security coordination, Arewa community was directed to nominate 10 operatives to work with local vigilance groups in joint patrols and intelligence sharing.
However, some Arewa youths accused their leaders of past inaction and called for accountability.
Stakeholders also resolved to sustain peace through monthly sensitisation campaigns, youth empowerment initiatives and strict enforcement of law and order.
